AFTER 31 YEARS, SELVAINE IS CLOSING

“My husband Frank and I opened Selvaine in March of 1994 with $4000 and a lease on a storefront nobody else wanted. He died on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. For 19 months I have run the shop alone. I cannot keep doing this without him.”

I am clearing the last of our inventory between now and the end of August. When the doors at 412 King Street close, they close for good. There is no second store. There is no online relaunch. There is no next season.

Every dress in this release was chosen one at a time, cut for a real body, and finished by a small team that has been doing this work for thirty-one years.

The fabric is the same fabric the big houses use. The cut is the same cut. The hands are not. Mass production can reproduce a silhouette overnight; it cannot reproduce a woman who has spent her working life learning where to put a hem.

When this release sells through, there is no second run. The hand that cut these is closing the door.
